Substituting MAP and DAP with TSP Maintains Soybean Yield While Avoiding N Loss

The Illinois Agronomy Handbook’s recommendations for soybean phosphorus (P) management are outdated. The last update of P fertilizer recommendations is likely pre-1970, and soybeans are treated as residual feeders, with P application recommended at the start of the corn-soy rotation. There are also limited quantitative recommendations on P fertilizer placement and timing specific to soybean. In this ILSoyAdvisor webinar, Dr. Andrew Margenot, Associate Professor in Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, reviews data collected in an Illinois Soybean Association check-off funded research project. He highlights the current situation and challenges in soybean production in Illinois regarding phosphorus management.
